April 13, 2012: At the Day’s End

All I want to do is soak in a hot tub. I mentioned to Pete that we could put it in the upper quadrant, but he isn’t budging. The drawback is the water issue. The water would get dirty fast, then we’d have to empty the hot tub and refill it.

So a hot shower is going to have to suffice. The problem is our shower water comes from an on demand hot water heater. It provides very hot water for at the most, one minute, then it gets lukewarm. Once in a great while it gets freezing cold. Pete knows why this is – I do not. I think that I should demand more of this hot water heater.

It was a long day. I got Tinni and Shadow out for a walk early on, then minutes after I got back it began to both snow and rain. By the time we left for town, it was just raining. There went my hot tub water. I could see the glow of the sun in the cloud cover, so I knew that it was going to clear up, and it did.

Little good this did me – I was inside the Meeting House, categorizing and cleaning the books that I got from the Friends of the Wasilla library and the Mat-Su College library. I had assistance from Nan Pots and Pans and Sheila, a newbie. I puttered around while they worked on the children’s books.

I need to call The Wasilla Friends of the Public Library tomorrow and thank them – they donated six boxes of children’s books to the Bright Lights Book Project. Nan took some home and so did I.

I’m getting familiar with children’s book authors and illustrators. I’m picking up on their respective styles and, so now, between other things, am working on my own children’s book one entitled Baloney the Pony.

Very odd, when I was done working at the meeting house, I pulled a copy of a supposed young adult book from a box. It was entitled “The Kennedy Assassination.” Geez Louise, this was not a kid’s book; although it was written in a very simplistic style. This book will give kids nightmares. It may give me nightmares. I just did not need to see a photo of Kennedy immediately after he was shot with the back of his head blown off. I also didn’t like the feeling that I was a voyeur, looking in on the private lives of public figures.

Pete’s arrival put an end to my literary eaves dropping. We loaded up the books I had set out, and then stocked all the distribution stations, including the one in Sutton. It occurred to me that we do have a problem, which is that we may go into the negative numbers with the books. We have to have lots of kid’s books on hand for upcoming community events.

By the time we headed to Sutton the sun was shining brightly, and we could see every detail on the snow-covered peaks. Finally, I thought, spring is here.
