September 14, 2021: A Long Pause

Before writing this dispatch. What, I have been wondering, should I write about? Sometimes I know, and sometimes, like tonight, I’m at a loss. I should write about today and what transpired on the book front, because I don’t want to forget certain things. Problem is, tomorrow, that which was important today will be unimportant, and vice versa. Memory is subjective, so why bother?

It was a Tuesday, my busy day, workwise. I first went to the meeting house and put together a handful of books for the seniors, then ran them over there. The books were soon mixed in with what was there, meaning that it was then impossible to sort out what had been there a while.

Swamp Thing

Mary, who I provide with goat milk, thanked me for all I’ve been doing – what’s important about this is that she did this rather than talk about her ongoing illnesses. And she looked good, too. So maybe her ingesting Swamp Thing’s milk is doing her some good.

I sat with my friends, Mario, Mary, Betty, and Scott, and I thought, huh, too bad it wasn’t like this in high school. Then I had no friends and dreaded going to the cafeteria. Today, Mario and I talked about body awareness and health, and Betty and I talked about her daughter Kate’s new mustang – Ace of Diamonds is going to arrive at Tammy Sutherland’s place on Monday. I asked Betty if she was going to see it, and she said yes, but she wasn’t sure when because she’s just grandma, and as such, dependent on her dependents for a ride to Tammy’s place. I will, on Thursday, offer to take her there.

It appears as though the newspaper box that’s at the Eckert Garden, on the Alaska State Fairgrounds, is destined for the Palmer Senior Center. They’re putting in a raised bed garden – I proposed to bring over a newspaper box and stock it with books. Scott, who is the president of the board, thought that this is a great idea. I’m also going to give the head gardener manure.

I next went to the Meeting House – Nan is back from Portland where she was caring for her daughter’s newborn. It was nice to have Sheila, Lois, and Nan again all working companionably, cleaning, categorizing, and getting kids’ books ready for distribution. I continued with my shelving and sorting endeavors – when I was done there were no books in boxes on the floor.

I stocked all the bookcases, and the kiosk in the Sutton Post Office. Talked at length with my friend Michelle, as I at the same time put books on the shelves. Then I came home, had just enough time to take Tinni for a walk. Kudos in town, for having gotten this project going.

Tomorrow I’m going to have to work on my grant proposal in the morning. I also have project calls to make. And if Bill returns the muck buckets, I’ll clean the goat pen. Whoa, I’m heading down to the Kenai the day after tomorrow. Time’s fun when you’re having flies.
