February 6, 2021: A Conversation with Tinni

Alys: Tinni, how are you doing?
Tinni: Just fine, why do you ask?
A: Because of what happened yesterday.
T: Oh that.
A: Yes, oh that.
T: As I understand, you were coming out to feed and clean up, and you saw me laying in front of the shelter.
A: Yes, yes.
T: And you thought that I was dead.
A Yes, yes.
T: But I was not.
A: No. You were very much alive. I ran up to the house and after telling Pete what I thought, I came back to the same place and saw you were up.
T: Yes, yes.
A: What happened; it shook me up.

Sub zero temperatures don't slow this guy down

T: It shook me up too.
A: You were just lying there. You don’t usually do this.
T: Well, I wasn’t lying there.
A: What were you doing?
T: I had just rolled on one side and was thinking about rolling on the other. I was trying to figure out if I had enough room. I decided I did not, so I got up.
A: I was hoping that something like this might be the case.
T: And it was.
A: I am still feeling relieved about the fact you are okay.
T: Here’s what you have to realize. I’m an older horse, but I’m in excellent shape for my age. I’m on medications for arthritis and for Cushing’s. I sometimes feel a bit stiff, but not so much that I can’t go on outings.
A: Do you enjoy the outings?
T: Oh yes, although lately Raudi has been somewhat bitchy.
A: She is impatient. Spring and green grass can’t come soon enough.
T: But here’s the deal. When you are fretting about losing me, you are doing me and you both a disservice. I’m here now, you are here now, and so we should enjoy being in one another’s company. You can’t do this unless you are in the present. You’re running what if scenarios through your head takes time away from our truly being together.
A: Sometimes I think that I’m bracing myself for what’s to come.
T: Not a good thing, not a good thing at all. When my time comes, you want to have memories, lots of memories of the good times we had together.
A: But I will miss you so.
T: See? Right there. That statement. Far better to say, “Right now, I am so enjoying your company.”
A: And I am enjoying your company.
T: And I am enjoying your company.
T: There. You got it.
A: Yes, you and the others continue to bring me great joy.
T: And we all enjoy the way you tend to us.
A: And you’re okay with how Pete tends to you?
T: That man is a real sweetheart. Every night he gives me my Cushing’s medication, and after gives me a scratch and a treat.
A: Is there anything else you’d like for us to do for you?
T: Just keep the good vibes coming.
A: Will do.
