April 19, 2023: A Wing and a Prayer

Today, as I was walking the dogs around the loop, I saw an eagle flying around on the top of the Talkeetna Range. Eagles in the air are a glorious sight. Eagles picking through garbage at a dump are a less glorious sight. I don’t believe in omens, but the sight of this bird, playing on the breeze, at least made me feel good.

The Universe is fucking with me these days. Eagle or no eagle, this is what I am now, finally acknowledging. I am in many ways caught between a rock and a hard thing. And if I ever get a chance to write about what’s going on, I am going to end up with many, many readers because hardship sells.

Eaglesnest, Vail

Do I sound vociferous? I feel vociferous.

I went to Sutton. Dropped off books. The affirmation was the high point of my day.

On the way out, downroad, with the dogs, a neighbor dog went into our yard. After our walk, I called its owner. We had a nice chat – sometimes being nice though, can be counter-productive. I told him that his dog has frequently come into our yard and that I worry about the livestock. All I need is for this dog to take out a goat.

I told this neighbor this, and he said to tell the dog to go home. I said, “well, what if we aren’t home?” He said “well, he won’t hurt your animals, and by the way, he takes off when my cousin does target practice.” I said, “can’t you chain him up when he does target practice?” and he said, “I can’t catch him.” I said, “Well, perhaps I should call the humane society,” and he said, “go ahead, but I doubt they’ll be able to catch him.” I said, “Well, what can I do?” And he said, “Shoot him!” So this problem did not get solved.

More to come – book project stuff. The Friends of the Palmer Public library want to have a book drive and have a local organization distribute these books. They do not have the details worked out. I went to a meeting of the Friends of the Palmer Public Library this afternoon – and attempted to fill them on what the BLBP does and how we might help out. I don’t think I was heard. I have to keep being vociferous; although right now I’d rather put on a turtle shell and pull my heads and legs into it.

Well, for sure, it is spring. The berm in front of the Bugge Park Library is gone, so the little library is again accessible. So I tidied up the shelves, and I put some new books in place. This took a while.

As long as the sun keeps shining, I’m okay.
