May 29, 2023: Home Alone

Pete has just left. His turn to go on vacation. His is going to be a real vacation. He isn’t going to work with other people’s horses, nor is he going to visit a literacy center. Rather, he’s heading to California where he will hang out with family members and friends. He will even be able to sleep in if he wishes. And he might get to spend his time in a real bed; one with a mattress.

And how do I feel about this? I just wish that there had been a concerted effort to find a house sitter since going someplace is preferable to the one being left behind.

In all fairness to Pete, he worked hard beforehand, getting as much done as he could. Tonight he gave me the garden tour. I wondered, as I looked around, what I did when he was working on getting the garden areas weeded and watered, and the plants in the ground. I most likely was shlepping books around. In contrast, my horse trailer and shed tack rooms are in need of cleaning.

The horses are doing good though. We took Tyra and Raudi out this evening – Raudi was actually quite energetic. And they’re all looking good. There is some grass diving going on, but once the horses are on the move, this is less so.

Early this morning, Josh our farrier came and trimmed hooves. There was some discussion as to whether we should have the three mares shod. I was against because I do not foresee taking them on rocky ground. Plus, we do have boots. Pete was for because he foresees taking them on rocky ground.

He then proposed that we do a trip at the end of June. I think he was just attempting to appease me because I wasn’t jumping for joy about his going on a trip. We’ll see.

I went to work today. The fact that I’d be driving Fonix was a motivator. I really do like the new-to-me car. I’ve never before driven anything like this. And most likely, I’ll never again drive anything like this. And the transition, going from stick shift to automatic, was far easier than I’d anticipated.

Mondays are the days in which I get ready for Tuesdays. I sort and categorize the children and young adult books. And I get books ready for the seniors. I need a day in which to work alone, and Mondays are it.

My plan is to continue to distribute books from the Meeting House until the end of the month. This way, the books will be transported just once.

Tomorrow the carpet at the Eagle Hotel will be cleaned. Robert and I will give it a few days to dry, and then on Friday, bring two U-Haul units of books over there. They are not very well organized. I have accepted the fact that I am going to have to sort and categorize books in both places.
