June 7, 2023: Out to Lunch

Pete got home late last night. In the past, I would have said that quickly we resumed old routines, but this was some time ago. Now, nothing is routine. The book project now has a life of its own and sometimes dictates what we’ll do in a given day.

I met up with Pete at the “Historic” Eagle Hotel today – we then assessed the shelving situation. Pete has good spatial relations, and while I am a visionary, I can’t envision anything if it’s in three dimensions.

Shelving to be moved

I can envision things in two dimensions, and I can envision things in four dimensions, but not three. Two dimensions, on a flat surface, I can see it. Four dimensions, going off into infinity, like railroad tracks, I can imagine it. But that damned third dimension, it will get you every time.

I did say that I want the room to remain as open as possible. If I had my druthers, I’d live in a space with just walls on the sides. I would not have much furniture, and each corner then would have significance.

So Pete next went and called the fellow who now owns the land that the Palmer Senior Center used to own. He is very willing to work with us in acquiring the land, if this is what we want.

There it goes, down the tubes, my vision of owning the Historic Eagle Hotel. I guess that other people’s visions are better than no visions at all. Nano a Nano I say.

I think all on the board are overwhelmed by all that we are doing right now, so they can’t wrap their minds around the prospect of a fund-raising campaign and all that goes with it. I say, give me my marching orders and I’ll make it happen. I, of course, hope that my enthusiasm is contagious.

Three other board members and a friend of a board member converged on the Meeting House this afternoon, with books in arms. All total, there was more than a truckload of books, which we put in the library room. They all gave me an assist in sorting and cleaning a goodly amount of these books. I was left to categorize them.

I watched everyone work companionably, and I again was blown away by how far this project has come. I mean, here board members were, cleaning books – they some time ago could have been shredding them.

After everyone left, Pete and I drove to Lowes and purchased more banker boxes, a mat, three more small totes, labels, a large not so magic marker, and a stool with which to stand on when putting books on upper shelves.

We returned to town, and I spent another hour stamping, cleaning, and boxing up books. I now have incentive to work hard. Pete thinks that it will be possible for us to do a small horse trek. I know this is dependent upon me, to get things in order, first.
