September 25, 2023: Burning the Candle at Both Ends

There’s a lot that I might write about. Problem is, I am tired, so choosing a single topic is near impossible. Generally, as the day progresses, I explore topics in my head, and sometimes elaborate on them. Now I have forgotten what these topics might be.

I am here, writing. Pete is downstairs, attempting to get the new stove to work. I am sure that he’d like to forgo having to do this and get ready for bed. Problem is (as we discovered), being without a stove is a pain in the ass.

Younger horse. Younger owner

We realized at 8:00 p.m. that he needed a 7mm wrench, and we needed to eat. Pete isn’t a big one for salads, so we instead went to town, to the ale house, for dinner. This was after we picked up the wrench. It is the end of hunting season, which is a cause for celebration, but we really could not celebrate much because I had evening animal chores to do, and Pete needed to get the stove working.

The sense of urgency has been intensified because of the fact that Pete will be leaving for Anchorage early tomorrow and returning home late Wednesday evening. So he isn’t going to have time to continue to troubleshoot Beko. This is the name of the company that sells these stoves, and therefore this is the name of this stove.

I am not a big one for cooking, so I am practiced at not needing to use a stove. The alternative, should he not be able to fix the problem (Beko needs to be converted to run on propane) will be to move the older, crapped out stove back into place. Then he can work on it when he gets back.

I have my own dealings to deal with. There was a bit of a lull on the book project front, but this lull was very brief. Today it all seemed as though it was coming at me. I got books ready to go today, to the Borough Building, the DMV, the Senior Center, Kombucha, and the Buggee Park Little Library. I also got books ready for the Ideas homeschool event and for a fellow who lives in Meadow Lakes and wanted gardening books. (Wednesday) The emergency preparedness books are also ready for Saturday’s events, as are the books that I’ll distribute in Bill’s absence (Thursday-Tuesday). And oh yes. Newspaper boxes will be picked up and delivered this Friday.

I am sure all this is of interest to no one. This is using writing to problem solve, the problem being my lack of confidence about my organizational abilities.

It’s late and I’m tired. And it’s when I’m tired that my confidence erodes. And yes, I am wondering how I will get it all done. But I will because I always do.

I’m grateful to have a decent working vehicle that’s paid for. The Subaru, in the yard, will soon have new owners.

This was my day and I’m sticking to it.
