October 15, 2023: All we are Saying. . .

Tonight, on the drive home from town, I turned the radio on and repeatedly sang the refrain, “all we are saying is give peace a chance.” This was of course very appropriate given that right now three wars are going on.

I suspect that others feel as sad as I do about this. I cannot listen to the radio and the talk of annihilation – I’m very sensitive to this. Pete, less so. It does mystify me why are we so intent on killing one another? I think that this has to do with overpopulation – it’s an innate way of keeping down our numbers, so that we’ll have enough resources for us all.

Anyhow, I drove up the driveway, and still singing at the top of my lungs, got out of Tank Grrrl, and headed in the direction of the horse enclosure.

I then began singing, “all we are saying is give mares some hay.” I do not know if they appreciate it, but I do know that they know I’m coming. It’s the best part of the day, seeing them looking expectantly at me, thinking that the hay lady is home.

A beautiful day, and all got out for some exercise. I first took Hrimmi out on our trails, then Pete and I went out together, him riding Raudi and me riding Tyra. All the mares were glad to get out, I think especially Tyra who was a bit more forward than she has been. She did an extended canter on Raudi’s Raceway – it isn’t very smooth, but I suspect that in time it will be.

If the weather is good tomorrow, I’ll get all three out again.

I’ve been putting gravel in the pen that is outside the pen. We got a truckload from Wheel Dog trucking a month ago. It’s setting up nicely – there are a few places that can use more, but there is, overall, minimal mud.

After lunch, Pete and I went to Anchorage. It was a shame, wasting a beautiful day driving to and fro – but we made the best of it. We first went to the airport and picked up books from Read on the Fly. They had set them aside for us. And as well, Title Wave had set aside books for us.

We returned to Palmer with a truckload of books, some adult, and some children. We unloaded them at the historic Eagle Hotel, and I sorted the fiction and nonfiction books. These books are clean and are ready to be stamped. I didn’t have the time to check out the kids’ books – I suspect that there are going to be some worn out books in the mix.

This day, it went like clockwork, what with our getting out for rides and then being right on time for our book pick up at the airport. Seldom do days go this well.

I felt bereft yesterday, after the meeting realizing that there were no more books to take care of. Well today took care of this problem.

There is no shortage of books. An embarrassment of riches with an emphasis on the word embarrassment.
