March 12, 2023: A Dang Good Day

A day with no commute is a day well spent. This is because (and I have said this many times before) commuting and wasting time are synonymous terms. Listening to the radio, listening to music, talking on the phone, all are activities that are watered down when commuting. Commuting is also anticipatory – the driver is mainly thinking of what they are going to be doing when they reach their final destination.

Time is better spent, say, on the home front – tending to things that must be done. No one who commutes is in the present.

Today, I stayed at home. I did consider going to the Meeting House and making boxes and filling them with books, for those doing the distributing. But no, instead, I took care of some things here.

First of all, I first took care of some book project administrative. I next cleaned the goat pen and the chicken roost. It was warmer than it’s been, so it felt good to be outside. I cleaned both the goat pen and the chicken roost two weeks ago. This plus the fact that the soiled bedding was not frozen nor in layers made the job easy. And there were just two sled loads of bedding, one went to the compost station and the other to the manure pile behind the hoop house.

Fun, watching Sassy ride the manure sled down the driveway. I need to make a video. She’s fearless and curious. I am looking forward to working in the agility arena with her and the other animals.

Then Pete and I got the horses out for a lengthy ride. It was a little chilly, but not so cold that I was going to forego getting out. I rode Hrimmi and Pete rode Tyra. Once again, they were bomber. Even the moose by the side of the road was not of concern to them. High point of my day, watching Tyra and Pete canter up Murphy Road.

It is today, daylight savings time – spring ahead and fall behind. Pete had not reset the kitchen clock, so I thought that it was earlier than it was. We had an evening engagement and at the last minute realized that we did not have an hour to spare. Now if we did, I would have taken a nap, which is uncharacteristic of me.

So we went to town for the once a month poetry reading. Our new friend Kaelyn was there, with her violin – she played for Pete and me and the handful of people who were present. She is, of course, really good, able to play complicated classical music without having the music in front of her.

An acquaintance, Marilyn, was also there. She had an amazing story to tell, about purchasing a mansion in Mankato, Minnesota where she used to live, then selling it. After, the buyer had the building torn down and put up an apartment complex. Really sad.

So all n all a good day. Glad I decided to forego the commute.
