March 28, 2023: Scrambling

A day that was balanced, not of my own accord. First, Zach came and did physicals and dentals and administered vaccines to the ponies. Recall that they’re ponies in the winter and horses in the summer.

Right now, they’re shedding – Hrimfara has the dorm room rug coat and is right now on the verge of the big shed. Zach is kind, patient, and very much enjoys educating his clients. The first thing I brought to his attention was that I suspected that Hrimmi has scratches – it’s a fungal and/or bacterial infection horses with white legs get on the legs. Geldings mainly get scratches on their rear legs because of urine splash when they pee. Scratches is characterized by scabs on the lower legs. Hrimmi had, I noticed, a bit of scabbing. Zach zoned right in on the area that I talked about and agreed.

So I will keep the area clean.

And Raudi’s wound is not yet quite healed. We are going to need to resume cleaning it.

Hrimmi and Tyra behaved very well and only required mild sedation for the dental floating. Both were just a little wide eyed, but easy to manage. Raudi, however, let it be known that she would have preferred to continue eating the dregs of hay at the hitching post. Neither Zach nor Pete saw what I saw, which was a look of undue irritation in her eyes.

Zach decided that she didn’t need to have her teeth floated at this time. So Raudi and I both breathed a sigh of relief when he was done.

Their heartrates were all in the mid-40s range. Temperature and respiration rates were normal.

It took Zach several hours to do what he does so well because he clearly enjoys talking with us about the animals and other things.

He did weigh the dogs, who were up to date on their vaccines. Shadow weighs 36 pounds and Ryder weighs 37 pounds. This is their lean, mean, running machine weights.

Zach left, and later came back. He purchased the milk machine that we could not get to work. Zach now has a milk cow, named Mooooon Shine, and she has a calf, a soon to be steer named Fire Balls.

I headed out at 1:15 p.m. to work. I’d told everyone that I’d be there at 2 p.m. I did and was not late. A good thing that I arrived on time because I had a full house. Rebekah came to get books to take for distributing at the DMV and the borough building and to give me a general assist; Bea stopped by to pick up books for Wolf Eyewear; and Pat and Louis showed up in order to clean children’s books.

After, I spent time further putting books away, then distributed books in town. This, as always, took considerable time. No one realizes that books do not put themselves away. People do this, and in this case, the individual in charge is/was me.

I got enough done so that I’ll be able to take some time off in the not-so-distant future.

Next: 87. 3/29/23: Kudos from Afar
