April 3, 2023: This Evening

It was overcast this evening, giving one the sense that it was cold out. I went to clean the horse pen after dinner and discovered that it was warm out, close to 40 degrees. Break up is approaching. Old poop is surfacing – I am being diligent about getting the manure that is just at the surface, although in a few days I’ll be unearthing entire piles. I’ll bet that I was an archeologist in my previous life.

As I was picking up poop, I again imagined all the animals that previously inhabited this place, and I pictured them walking up the driveway. In my mind, nothing, absolutely nothing, is beyond the realm of possibility.

Getting books ready for shipping

Let’s see, the crew coming up the driveway would include three horses, four goats, three dogs and nine chickens. The chickens would be riding on the horses’ backs. All would be very excited about being back.

Maybe I’d have to be in a different dimension for this to happen.

But if I entered this dimension, I’d grieve for the animals that are currently here. We have three horses, two dogs, two goats, and four hens. If I had a place with more room, I’d get another Icelandic gelding and breed the goats and have baby goats racing around. I’d also get another border collie. And if we had a pond, I’d get geese or hopefully be on a migratory pathway. This would be the best.

I think that in a previous life I was a migratory bird. Of this, I am sure.

Spring is definitely in the air – everyone seems to be more upbeat because of this.

Nancy Wade, who works for the Alaska Bird Rehabilitation Center, came by to get some of our bird books.

I had thought that we had a lot more. Turns out that Pete has the bird books at the college. I was glad to realize that I was not losing my mind. They are having a benefit at the Moose Lodge on Saturday. The cost, $50.00, is steep for this vegetarian – they are serving prime rib.

I would do volunteer work at the bird rehabilitation center, but it is not a nearby organization. It would be too far a drive for me, there and back.

Today I also contacted the Chinese Immersion School in Anchorage – they were surprised to hear that we are giving away books. However, they will take our Chinese books – we have a dozen boxes. I did not tell them this – surprise.

And I sorted through the equivalent of a truckload of books today. When I entered the Meeting House, I was filled with angst because there was so much to do. I took the day’s work a bit at a time, and by the day’s end, I was less overwhelmed. Once again, I am the one who is going to have to find appreciative readers for each and every one of them.

Hoping for sunshine tomorrow; although Pete says it is supposed to snow in the afternoon. Blech.
