January 21, 2024: Nulla Dies Sine Linea: Organization

If you’re a writer, organization has its negative and positive aspects. The downside – it can manifest itself in the form of procrastination. Like today. I was wanting to work on Shelf Life but found other things to do. I had some rather large piles of books in the kitchen. I consolidated four piles into two, right on the middle of the table. There weren’t any books that I was wanting to part with – I mean, why would I have brought them home?

I next began removing, then adding new phone numbers into my cell phone contact list. Granted, I had put this off for six years. Right then seemed like the opportune time to do this. So I wasted no time in determining who were still and who were no longer friends. There are more names; I’ll save them for another day.

Lander Cut-Off

I jumped up when I was done, put on my Refrigirware suit, and headed outside where I fed the horses then took Raudi and Hrimmi for a walk. This has to do with organization only insofar as it relates to time. The horses had to get out. This was as good a time as any. But no writing got done.

I cleaned up the mare’s manure before coming in. It was 1:25 p.m. We had to be in town at 2:00 p.m., so as to meet our neighbor Sebastian who is going to give us a hand with BLBP technology. We were having a splendid conversation when Robert, the BLBP president walked in the door with the Title Wave books. It was a good haul, four boxes of kids’ books and 7 boxes of adult books. Sebastian, Pete, and Robert gave me an assist sorting them.

The sun’s setting later, now at 5:00 p.m. Pete went to give Sebastian an assist with his truck, which will not start and so I got a fire going, fed the dogs, and tended to the horses. We ate dinner, stir fry, at 7:00 p.m.

It’s now 7:40 p.m. If, say, I’d dedicated this day to organizational tasks, I would soon be back at it. Alas, my interest in doing this is now nil, as it is on most days after I spend my time dealing with books.

So what am I going to do this evening? Of course, I should work on Shelf Life. It does appear as though I have for now Shelved Shelf Life. There was no reason for my doing this. But maybe, just maybe, my subconscious, having been pushed to the max (or so it thinks) told my conscious to back off from doing any more work for a bit.

I left off three quarters of the way through the U-Haul Chapter. My subconscious may be balking because I do need to get some more U-Haul related information. I’m also thinking that, overall, I may need more research-related information.

Tomorrow, there is always tomorrow. Tonight, I am going to continue reading Venus to the Hoops, which is about the 1996 Olympic woman’s basketball team. I will get back to Shelf Life when I am done, for sure. As for the organizational aspects of my life, things can be postponed.
