We, in addition to doing our usual route, went up the bench trail a ways. We came to a place in the trail where a branch had blown down, and there we turned around. The ride was worth the view of the Chugach Range –the distant mountains stark white and blue. It’s at these moments that I enjoy living here.
My view about living here today was marred by the fact that one of my favorite farms, the one right off the Glenn Highway, is for sale. It has a lot of acreage. I have been keeping my eye on a cow and I think a bull, - the cow recently had a calf. The place is in total disrepair. I have often fantasized about purchasing it – it would cost half a million to put in fencing – but the horses, they could run and graze and run and graze.
I also often fantasize about Hrimmi’s breeder, Andrea Brodie, leaving us her place. It struck me as being ideal for our needs. And maybe, too, a few Icelandic horses would come with the deal. However, I suspect that many, many, many people are keeping their eyes on Lough Arrow II.
I talked with a woman today who is working at Baby Raven Reads, a program in which the focus is on literacy, the audience being Alaskan Natives. I was so enthused about what she was doing that I began again to fantasize about our purchasing the Historic Eagle Hotel. This does make sense since we could then have enough space for anticipated growth. I can see us building a place and then after going, no, no too small. Plus, we have a lot to do.
Lots of dreaming going on here. Pete is holding the balloon. My head is in the clouds, but clouds are only an event.
No magical spring yet; it’s still too cold. It was easier to get work done in the former banquet room of the Eagle Hotel because I wasn’t regretting being inside. I did do some distributing, just so I could be out and about. Tomorrow, we go to Anchorage for another event – Reading Rendezvous. Maybe by next year I’ll finally have the spelling of Rendezvous down.
