It is very late as I write this. It’s dark out. The house is quiet. Pete and the dogs are asleep. I had no choice but to get my writing-related work done at this ungodly hour. I would have preferred to do this earlier, but we got home late.
This morning, late as usual, I went to start my car and discovered that the ignition wouldn’t turn over. Oh oh. Pete agreed to give me a ride. The odd thing was, I didn’t realize until we got to the hotel that this was going to change my day’s plans. I’d be dependent upon Pete for a ride home, so I wouldn’t be doing any distributing. This is called not thinking ahead.
Pete and Susan both gave me an assist with sorting and stamping the book my good friend Cheryl dropped off yesterday. I was very appreciative because this alone would have taken me most of the day. And after lunch, Susan gave me a hand getting the 280 books ready to be picked up by a friend who lives in Sutton. She was going to take them to a HeadStart event. |

I then went by foot (what a novelty) over to the Pioneer Home, where I talked with Kim, the volunteer coordinator, about Children Read to Seniors/Seniors Read to Children particulars. It’s a go. I just need to coordinator things at our end.
It was then a short walk over to the Colony House Museum where I talked at length with new BLBP board member Shari Hamming about the current state of BLBP affairs. Pete had picked me up a chocolate bar for lunch, and this of course made me more energetic. Poor Shari, for an hour, had to listen to me babble about book project particulars. Fortunately, she did see my point of view about various aspects of the project, and this contributed to my chocolate induced euphoria.
As she sees it, we need to further develop the ethos of a literacy center. She suggested that there be a name change – and so on the walk home, the wheels that turn slow turned a little faster – Pete, Bea, and Tom, our realtor friend, liked the name Palmer Literacy Center. As Bea said, “If we don’t use this name, someone else will.” So it will be Palmer Literacy Center/Bright Lights Book Project. Shari also suggested that our given space should also indicate to people that we are a literacy center. So it was decided that the front area, where the desk is, needs to be changed. So late in the afternoon, I preparation for the furniture move, I put my shoulder to grindstone and pushed hard. I worked until 10:00 p.m. mainly moving books around.
I told Pete when he got back from graduation that I have done my share. Tomorrow I will do some distributing. Then I’m coming home and spending time with my animals.
