June 6, 2025: Late at Night

Is a good time to reflect upon the day’s events. Seems now like I do this all the time. Writing is easy in the mornings -- more difficult for me in the evenings. But I can crank out evening dispatches with the best of them.

It isn’t working, the way that I am attempting to strike a balance in my life. This morning, yes, I wrote for an hour. I worked on the section in Shelf Life that’s prior to, and about the move to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. I next am going to write about unpacking the books and getting the place in order. There is plenty of room for reflection here. Part Three is going to have a lot of it.

But here’s the catch. I could have spent that hour distributing books or cleaning my horse gear; neither of which got done today. Instead, I met with one of next Saturday’s Silent Auction organizers, then with Cheryl and our realtor Tom, and after, I bagged up some of the books for the saddle bags. The parade and silent auction arenext weekend.

Then I had physical therapy in the pool. It went okay. Holly, my physical therapist, told me all about fly fishing, which is something she does. It is very time-consuming and involving. For example, fly fisher people have to figure out what sort of lure/bait to use based on all sorts of environmental conditions.

I returned to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel and met up with Pete. We went to Anchorage and first stopped at Title Wave books where we loaded up the back of the car with books.

Then it was on to a Center for the Books potluck/meeting. I got to meet all the individuals who I had previously talked with on Zoom. Patience, she was the one who was hosting this event – had a small place and as it turned out, all 10 or so Center for the Book board members showed up.

I did feel out of place most of the time. The lack of chairs and my having to sit on a huge stuffed chair that was very uncomfortable added to my sense of discomfort, as did the fact that I’m straining to hear. I need a new set of hearing aids.

Pete was again socially adept – he very much enjoys talking with people and did a very good job of it tonight. I wish that I was as gregarious as he is.

We got back to Palmer at 10:00 p.m. and unpacked and repacked all the Title Wave books. And I packed up the books for distribution tomorrow.

Tomorrow – I have a plan. It rained hard here in the morning, and the sun came out in the afternoon. I suspect that the sun will shine tomorrow, which means we’ll be on for Friday Fling. Well, I will go later and leave earlier, and do the distributing, and then come home. No more of this working almost around the clock. This only wears out the minute and the hour hand.
