July 30, 2025: 8.8

It’s raining. I don’t mind at all. Means that my focus is more on indoor stuff. Tonight I’ve been weeding out the books in my horse library. As I have repeatedly said, the difference between a book hoarder and a book collector is bookcases. I wish I had more. Got books all over the place here, upstairs. Lots of books all over the place.

I wish I had more room. Wish I had a real office. Wish a lot of things. Life is like that. We come into the world wishing for sustenance of some kind, heat, milk, a mother’s love.

It was not quite an ideas day. But it was close. I began the day alone – Pete was by then someplace in California. 8.8. That was the earthquake seismic activity. It was supposed to have been the 6th largest earthquake ever, now it’s the 10th largest earthquake. Where did they get the other three earthquakes? Seems as if they were that large, they would have been in the count.

So it’s one day at a time until he gets back next Tuesday.

I solved a writing-related problem today. I abandoned my ending. I’m not sure if it is going to work. It does seem like it would be better if it is not speculative, and I do arrange for a TED talk.

So instead, I instead wrote about my hip injury. And I think I found a good place for this anecdote. I need this low point to be three quarters of the way through the piece, and this is now where it is. I hesitated to write this because it’s a rewrite – I had done an article on this subject. But my having written it previously better brought it back to mind. Also, I was more free to expand upon significant details.

It was a better day than usual. I went swimming, my version. There was a sign that read, “hot tub temporarily closed.” I was majorly disappointed and instead started my workout. Then, I noticed after completing a lap, that the cones had been removed. I happily entered the hot tub, and shortly thereafter I resumed my workout. The amazing thing is I felt a whole lot better afterwards.

I got to the hotel and saw that Bill had dropped off the Title Wave books and Robert was unpacking them, so he could distribute them. Bea soon appeared and began categorizing them. Good to get help.

Now I was to meet at 1:30 p.m. with Melina and Hally and talk about the Alaska State Fair plans. And I learned this morning that a volunteer group was coming in at the same time? What to do? I figured that I would simply move back and forth between the two groups. Well, Bea worked with the volunteers, and I met with Melina and Hally and all went just fine.

After, I met with Christine and Hillary and Elizabeth and got them signed up for their Alaska State Fair slots.

Came home, ate chocolate. Took care of the animals. Why not? This enables me to get the job done. Tended to the animals. Now heading out to take the dogs for a walk. I’ll eat and then call it a day.

Tomorrow will be another day. This is something that is a certainty.

Next: 206. 8/1/25: Going into Fall
