August 4, 2025: Procrastination

I am no more a procrastinator than most. If something needs to be done, it gets done. I am more timely some days than others. Today was not as bad as yesterday – I procrastinated by binge reading McGuiness’s The Lost Brothers. Five minutes turned to ten, which turned to fifteen minutes. Still, I did manage to get an hour’s writing in. And I rode all three horses.

Today I got my hour of writing in, and I rode two horses with the intention of riding a third later on.

The writing – I began writing about Lisa Murkowski’s visit. Interesting, I have the story line figured out, but the words weren’t coming as easily as they have on other days. I am making some good connections to other parts of the book, like mentioning that I gave Lisa a copy of Wheels on Ice at the end of her visit, and during our quasi tour, pointing out to her the work of our artist in residence.

I rode Raudi and Tyra, on our trails today. Both were slow. I think that we went too long in getting them trimmed. I made note of the terrain – I may be working at paying close attention to what I am seeing because this way, I’m prolonging summer. The vegetation is getting increasingly more lush, and the cow parsnip is turning yellow, this being the first sign of fall.

I went in to work late in the afternoon. Actually, I first did the distributing, first stopping at the ice cream shop, then dropping off books at the Matanuska River Park, then circling back and putting books in the Swanson newspaper box. The Lekker Bakery, Kombucha 203, the Bugge Park Little Library, and the Amoosement Park all needed books.

I next stopped by the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel and assessed the situation. I was told yesterday that there were five boxes of children’s books on hand that needed cleaning. Well, the person who told me this did not say that there were boxes of books under the table. Oh well – I decided to go over there and see if there were any books on hand for the Alaska State Fair boxes. Fortunately, there were.

I do not know why the U-Haul powers that be locked the front door – they were supposed to be there until 9 p.m. It was then 6 p.m. I ended up, with very full cart in hand, going out the side door.

If need be, they could turn that U-Haul facility into a prison.

Procrastination – I’m needing to get caught up on my recent trip dispatches.
