September 4, 2025: Rain

The sun was shining this morning – it was beautiful out, a crisp, cloudless fall day. I wasn’t going to miss any of it. I first picked raspberries and peas and then took the dogs for a walk around the loop. They appreciated it and so did I.

I then went to the pool, restocked the bookcase and then went swimming. It does not take long for me to get the requisite exercise.

Then I went and distributed books, first to the Amoosement Park; then to Iditawash; then to Alaska Family Services; then to the Palmer Senior Center, where I dropped off religious books that I picked up from AFS.
Onward, to the Bleeding Heart Brewery. The owner wanted a second bookcase, which would exclusively hold children’s books. I moved books to the new bookcase, so I left several gaps.

The Borough Building – it was here that distributing came to an end for the day. The six shelves were nearly empty. I ended up filling them with nine bins of books and still did not have enough books on hand to complete the job. This means that the shelves were not stocked when I was at the fair.

There were two more stops – I first went to the DMV where of course the shelves were a mess, and then to Family Treasurers Thrift Store, where I picked up a handful of books. Two out of ten could be passed on.

It was then back to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel where I met up with Cathy, the artist. We actually had a very productive late afternoon. We made thank you cards for those who have funded the BLBP.

I stopped shlepping in order to work with Cathy – after I got boxes of books ready for Franz Bakery, The Big Lake Elementary School, and the 12 newspaper boxes.

This was my day all right. I am playing this incredible game of catch up, one that I’ll never seem to win. It’s a lot like the board game Monopoly. Round and round I go.

There was a horse book – I gave it away and wish I hadn’t, about a horse that while at the racetrack went round and round. Then he went round and round as a therapeutic riding horse.

The horses with the equine circus at the fair also went around and around. My horses don’t realize how good they have it. They could right now have it better if say I had more time to spend with them. Any time anyone remarks on how good the weather is, I think of them.

Tomorrow I will finish distributing books and clean and categorize those books that I brought back from the fair. And then maybe I can work on the literacy room.

Later today, the clouds began piling up, and finally, later in the evening, it began raining. And it’s still raining. And tomorrow it will continue to rain. At least I spent the better portion of the day outside.
