November 6, 2025: First real snowfall

It was a late fall/early winter. We were lucky to have warmer temperatures in September and October. It’s November and here we go – snow. First grainy, then later real snow, flakes, the sort that fall slowly out of the sky and you chase them around with your mouth open.

This is just the way it is supposed to me. Now we’ll have five months of this. P-tooey. Makes me want to move to New Mexico, where the sun shines and there are a lot of riding trails. Alaska is no place for a horse, or a horse owner, to be.

I was at Rotary and I listened to two very young and earnest young woman talk about the Mat-Su Trails Foundation. They (or someone in their organization) had put together a Power Point presentation in which they both provided commentary.

They talked about trails in relation to ATV, hiking, bicycling, and skiing, but not in relation to horseback riding. I called them on this after their presentation when they were getting ready to leave.

They said that grants are available – after all, they are a foundation – but that there had been little horseback rider representation.

This, of course, got me to thinking, hey I could lobby for horse and ride accessibility on local trails, and work at getting grant funding because I now have this kind of mindset.

Then I got to thinking, wait a minute. My hands right now are very, very full with the BLBP. And I do mean very full. I put in a 13 hour day today.

And right now, I do not know if so-called help is on the way. The truth be known, I am discouraged. When I get this way, and then write about getting this way, I think that there are some who would be glad to see me give this up.

So I will continue to do what I do so well, meaning that tomorrow I will get up and finish up what I did not get done today. I did get quite a bit of categorizing done this evening – tomorrow I am going to move books into the literacy annex.

I’m also supposed to start a writing group – I did not advertise it, so I am not sure if anyone is going to show up.

I attended a Zoom Center for the Book meeting tonight. Those who are running the show have been running the show for some time and are set in their thinking as to what their organization should do, which is to promote writers, independent bookstores, and libraries. There, as of yet, no category for the likes of those envisioning literacy to change lives by making free books accessible to young and old alike.

They also don’t see what’s happening. There is now an overabundance of books and an underabundance of readers.

Yeah, tomorrow I’ll get up and go at it again. Habit kills.

Next: 300. 11/8/25: Saturday, all Day
