April 13, 2026: Round and Round

Just like on a merry go around. The question is, when we die, do we finally grasp the concept of time? Right now we see it as being linear and related to our births and deaths. Each day brings us closer to our last. We can’t see beyond this. But there has to be more to it.

Today was a dental day. I first did some distributing, went to the Palmer post office and mailed my package to Dan St. John, and then headed in the direction of Meridian Dental. Minimal traffic, a sunny day with good visibility. I was also glad to see that there is now a stop light at the intersection where I make a right, into the dental complex.

I was early and had to wait some time for my appointment. I first passed on a handful of books to the new receptionist. Every time I go in that place new people are working. And this dentist should win an award for the worst waiting room furniture ever. I never sit down – this time I read a book on the birdlife in New York’s Central Park.

Jenn, my regular hygienist, greeted me. I gave her an update on the implant infection. She took x-rays and then went and got the dentist, which did make me nervous. He did considerable poking and prodding, making me even more nervous.

We then had The Talk about the implant infection. Yes, he said, there has been more bone loss. Oh Oh. So, he said I had a choice. I could have the implant tooth pulled or I could wait and see if there is even more bone loss. I of course opted to wait until my next appointment, because as we both agreed, the implant is solidly in place, and I am not in too much pain.

I left with a bottle of chlorohexidine.

The intersection light, I decided, is too red for too long. But I was glad that I was not having to deal with two way traffic.

More distribution after the dental visit, then home. A few days ago I declared it spring. Tonight I declared it breakup. It’s not overly muddy in our yard or in the horse enclosure, but there is water everywhere. Raudi Lake has not yet started to drain. I would not be surprised if I went out in the morning and saw ducks floating around out there.

Had two good rides, the first on Hrimmi who seemed very alert. These pre-spring rides are very good for her because she listens to me rather than diving for grass. I next rode Raudi who was agreeable. Tomorrow is her 23rd birthday, and I repeatedly reminded her of this.

And tonight I called Vicki who is on the BLBP board and has taken on the job of being my health advisor. I told her about the dentist visit and the outcome and she told me that I should not use the chlorohexidine. Hmm, she also didn’t understand why the dental hygienist nixed the use of Listerine.

Anyhow, I feel better about the implant infection. This is going to be a good lesson in living for the moment, which is something that of course requires considerable practice.

Next: 102. 4/14/26: Raudi’s 23rd Birthday
