May 12, 2026: The Show Must Go On

Another cold, gray day; one in which I was inside most of the time. I don’t feel as bad about not being with the horses when the weather is like this. I am, of course, hoping that the sun shines on Friday, the first day of what we call Friday Fling.

It was a somewhat hectic day. It began with me meeting with our volunteer coordinator and then meeting with my math tutor. We are working on an article about book overabundance and the environmental effects of being poor book stewards.

I was really proud of myself because I knew last night that I didn’t have the energy needed to come up with writing for today’s session. So I waited until this morning – a good thing because the writing came easily.

Tutor is adept at math and making charts and graphs. I shared the introduction, and he began working on a graph that included incremental information on the number of books that we’ve found places for, and the number of years in which this happened.

I just need to find time to put some real work into this.

I have to put together an agenda for the Summer in the Parks staff – I wrote a draft during the BLBP board meeting. Since I have a draft, I can write this up tomorrow morning, before I go distributing books.

My friend Becky stopped by to say hello. I hadn’t seen her in some time. She told me that one of her three 15 year old cats is sick. She’s close to her cats, so it’s death is going to be tough to take. As I have often said, life’s greatest unfairness is that human life expectancy is greater than that of our animals – we are the ones who end up carrying the weight of their souls around with us.

I finished my math session, it was 1:00 p.m., and three people came in the door – I had to deal because our volunteer coordinator had left. Books got cleaned, stamped, and categorized, and then after, I had a bit of time in which to clean up the place. It gets cluttered really quickly.

I worked in the back room some. All I seem to be able to do is a little bit at once back there to a large part because of the heat.

The meeting – oh lord, another BLBP board member has decided to spread their wings and fly elsewhere. The numbers have added up – I am glad that Pete is oblivious to my role in this. I am the one with the flawed personality. It would break my heart if Pete acknowledged this.

I have so much to do that at one point I was working on a rough draft of the above-noted agenda. Also, a list of the items that I’m going to need to have on hand for Friday Fling.

And if it rains? We’ll be indoors. This is what I know.

Next: 130. 5/13/26: Pete’s Birthday
