May 24, 2026: Question

And what are we doing, Pete and I, hanging out at our computers at 11:30 p.m. at night. This isn’t right. And it isn’t good for us. Makes it difficult to sleep, being up this late, and on our machines.

It might help if we got up earlier. But it’s hard to get up early if you stay up late.

This morning, at 7:00 a.m., the sun was shining brightly. While waiting for Pete to wake up, I read a book, Pencil of Promise, which was about this fellow who raised funds to have schools built in Laos. It’s not a really good book. And it’s not a bad book. But I am reading in order to gain insight into his fundraising process.

I eventually got up, cleaned the horse pen, and had pancakes for breakfast. Pete made them. Then I got down to work, and for the next few hours I put time and energy into BLBP administrativa.

My plan was to go horseback riding in the early afternoon, but I got outside and it was raining. So I told Pete, who was working on the greenhouse roof, replacing panels that blew off during a winter rainstorm, that I was going to town and doing work in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle hotel. He agreed with me that this was a good idea – that most likely when I returned the rain would have stopped and it would then be nice horseback riding weather.

I didn’t do much in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. I worked on my filing system and put some things away. I then went distributing, doing what I call the alternate route – the Mat-Su River Park campground, the Swanson Elementary school newspaper box, and the Big Dipper Ice Cream parlor. I was once again reminded that Sundays aren’t the best day for going to the latter. There were a lot of parents there who had screaming children.

And I had to crawl behind this really large, fat guy in order to stock the bookcase. He either could not or would not pull his chair forward.

Once at home, Pete and I went for a horseback ride. As I’d hoped, the rain and wind had stopped. I rode Raudi and Pete rode Tyra. Raudi was spunky, feeling good. Pete said the same of Tyra.

We got home, and while Pete made dinner (fish and potatoes and a salad) I took Hrimmi out for a ride. She was distracted by the grass, which is a nice way of saying all she wanted to do was eat.

After dinner I cleaned the horse pen and then cleaned Tyra up. The Panacur Power Pack did not work. Her poop is fairly solid but she’s still is having water come out of her back end.

This was my day. And yes, it was like a day unlike any other, no surprise, no two days are ever the same.

Tomorrow I will stay home and take care of things on the home front.
