May 31, 2026: Good bye May

This is the last day of May. Tomorrow June will appear and steal the show. The sun’s supposed to shine for the next week – June is putting on her dancing shoes and stepping out. May is stepping back, after making a dilatory attempt at bringing about spring.

This morning I put phone numbers in my cell phone so that I don’t have to spend time looking for numbers. The problem, and it is a real one, is that I often misplace my cell phone. Now that the numbers are in it, it’s even more important that I not lose it.

It took a lot of time, getting the numbers in place. This is going to save me time, or this is what I’ve been told.

As I was working away, I got an email from one of the four young women who are doing internships at the muskox farm. Alicia said that they’d like to come out for a visit. I said sure, and less than an hour later they were pulling in our driveway.

Their names are Megan, Alicia, L, and McKenzie. They’re up here for the summer working at the farm. I learned that they no longer bottle feed the muskox, which is a good thing because the muskox didn’t like being bottle fed. The theory was that they would be more docile if they were hand fed. As I was told, this proved to be false, and in fact they were even more aggressive.

I introduced them to the mares, and then I gave them the tour, with Pete focusing on the garden, this included the greenhouse, the hoophouse, and the side yard, which contains the apple trees, currents, and bees.

We then checked out the agility arena, and after, did the upper quadrant. Pete talked at great length about his beer cellar. I thought, as he was talking, wrong audience. Maybe we can someday get a group of guys here, and then they can do the hubba hubba. I wished that I had lunches for the interns – some domestic women would of course be able to whip something together in minutes. Not me. This is a shortcoming, for sure.

We then returned and brushed Hrimmi and Tyra who ate contently as we talked. I remembered that Tinni and Siggi, although they were geldings, they also liked the girl chat hubba hubba. And after, we did the tour of the neighborhood (with Tyra and Hrimm.

After we all got back to the house, I sent them on their way. They actually may become regulars around here, which would make me very happy.

This evening, I took Hrimmi for a ride, and my gosh, she did not dive for grass. She stopped often, as she often does, but then moved on. It was the best she’s ever done. Our grande finale was that we crossed the Murphy Road Turnoff creek.
