It seems like we went from winter to summer. There was no spring, it held off than came on fast. It’s easy to personify because each season does seem to have its own characteristics.

So now we are in what I will call early summer. I’m of course wanting the days to slow down because I am not looking forward to the days getting shorter. Every second, at least in my mind, counts.

Everyone seems to be very up. We are keeping the door of the former banquet room of the Eagle hotel open – the fresh air and sometimes not so fresh air (the Sunset grill restaurant cook smokes – yeech), wafts in.

My day began with a meeting with the owner/editor of the Mat Su Sentinel. I may not be a journalist, but I do have journalistic instincts. I know a story hook when I see one – and three schools closing and our getting all the books – this is a hook. Amy thought so too. She is very lively, very talkative – sort of slowed down the crew’s getting ready to go out in the field.

Pete is spearheading the effort to work with her and with the owner of the People’s Paper – he is wanting to turn the newspaper boxes into public art by having community members paint them.

Lots of people in and out. Today was day three of Summer in the Park(s) – we were back at Bugge Park – a grassy lot surrounded by a chain link fence – a busy highway on the far side and a residential street on the near side. In between, playground equipment – nothing like Amoosement Park, which has trees, a covered picnic shelter, and a very upscale playground.

There is no shade in Bugge Park – I am going to suggest to staff that in the future on hot days that we put up the picnic shelter.

There were, all total, about a dozen children and their parents who involved themselves in what we were doing. We noticed that they were less interested in Story Time and more interested in acquiring plants and talked about ways of rectifying the situation. My problem is that I only have so much time to both do what needs to be done in the former banquet room and in the way of curriculum planning.

So, yuh, I am just going to remain upbeat and optimistic and fake it.

Tonight, late, after dinner, I took Raudi out for a ride, this was after dosing her with mosquito repellant. I thought that we’d first have to deal with gnats. I think she and Tyra and Hrimmi were appreciative of the fact that I took the time to address the problem.

Raudi (on our ride) was pissy. She didn’t want to listen to me. No, she wanted at the grass and was far worse than Hrimmi. So I got her in focus on the way home by doing circles and serpentines. Tomorrow, I will write about how lucky I am.
