September 26, 2026: Dusk

Coming home tonight I noticed that the trucks and attached trailers were gone. They no longer were parked at the Murphy Road Turnoff. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw this and hoped that the moose in the area remained unharmed. We may actually start seeing them in the next few days.

Pete went to Sharon Peek and Harry Bank’s wedding today. I went to the rehearsal and dinner last night. The dinner was at a large, upscale Asian eatery. It was a two-part buffet meal, the first part was sushi, the second part was mostly chicken based soup and Asian food. I woke up plugged up this morning, I determined that they put MSG in the food, which is often the case.

I took care of things on the home front – fed the animals, cleaned up after them, and took the dogs for a walk around the loop. Ryder is still hanging in there – I think that she likes getting out in the mornings. Shadow does for sure.

Oh, and I picked tomatoes and peas and cut the tomatoes into itty bitty pieces.

There was a part of me that wished that I had gone to the wedding because I was curious to see how it turned out. But I was quite content to be here, doing morning chores. I could have used more time here, of course.

But no, I went to work. There were two large boxes of children’s books in the lobby, one on the drop box and the other next to the drop box. I was going to use the time that I ended up spending unpacking them cleaning up the back room, but I finished close to 1:00 p.m. when Melissa and Alexi, the high schoolers, rolled in.

We talked some about doing a fundraiser for more books to Kenya – now that I think of it, I might make the shipping contacts and see if it’s still possible to send books. And I have to get going on sending books to villages, this week.

We were joined by another high schooler who needed to get hours in for her service award. I think this being an easy job was a motivator for her. Difficult, breaking the ice that froze up between her and the other two high schoolers.

And we were joined later by Vera and Ricky, two new board members who are now assisting with distribution. This is good, it’s going to be one less thing for me to fret about. But now that I think about it, it has been going good.

After the students left, Pete met with Vera and Ricky to talk about board policy and with Ricky to talk about finances. I retreated to the back room and resumed doing what I wanted to do, organize books. I got far more done than I thought I would – I unpacked the boxes of poetry on the bookshelves and put them out on their own. I did other things of course, but this was what I was most pleased with.

Tomorrow more of the same. Gotta get the horses out. Gotta get the newsletter done.
