March 23, 2026: Plane Crash

So this morning I notice the headline indicates that a fire engine and a commercial passenger jet collided at LaGuardia National Airport. Just like that – the pilot and co-pilot were snuffed out.

Later today, as Lawrence and I were talking, I remarked that where we were working, in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel, was calm and peaceful. Not so at La Guardia airport. There, TSA workers are not getting paid because of a government shutdown, and ICE has been called in to take way supposed interlopers. If there ever was a scene of general mayhem, this was it.

Yes, it was good to be here, in Palmer, Alaska on an uneventful day. I have yet another cold – this one is odd; it started out in my lungs and is migrating to my head. Odd, how each cold has its own personality.

I talked to Pete before I left for town. He was getting ready to meet with those he’d made appointments with in Juneau. Now, just two more days of this, and two more evenings alone. He said to me that he won’t be going to Juneau any more in the winter, but I suspect that next year at this time he will again decide to go there.

It was a somewhat more labor intensive day because I am the one here pulling the cart, and not too happy about it. But I did tend to all the animals. That it was in the 20s (F), and that the sun was shining, made what may have been hard, easier – most notably watering the horses, goats, and chickens.

I took Tyra for a walk and as well Shadow and Ryder, early this morning. Ryder was slow, but willing to go along. Tyra raced around, happy to be out. These horses are people horses and to not spend time with them is to do them a disservice.

I got home, ate dinner, and then first took Hrimmi and Shadow for a walk. This time, Shadow didn’t want to go along. She kept stopping. I think that she thought Ryder should come along, too. This has got me thinking that at some point we are going to have to get a puppy because Shadow has never been alone and would not like being alone.

Hrimmi just meandered. My subsequent walk with Raudi was companionable. She definitely enjoyed getting out and enjoyed being with me. I was reminded of how the first few years of her life Raudi was not, when I walked her, companionable. She was not then attached to me the way she is now. I have always been attached to her.

Spring – I told someone today that spring here is daylight, and a bit of warmth from the sun. The snow, it will remain although the horse pen is now pitted.

Wind advisory for tomorrow. Wind. This may be common here from now on. But every time it blows hard, I say this means that someone else is moving.
