May 5, 2026: Hrimmi’s Birthday

And I didn’t get to spend any time with her. But I did think of her and remembered her birth. Today she turned 11. Now she’s in her prime. She’s never in a hurry – and she does like to think things through. Lately I’ve been riding her so as to gain her focus because when the grass appears, she’s more interested in grazing than she is in paying attention to her rider.

I do wonder if sometimes working so hard is negating what I’m attempting to do, which is to find other motivated individuals, one’s who will see the project as also their own. So far, this has not happened. Everyone likes to be involved, but they are reluctant to make this a priority in their lives. All with the exception of Pete.

Hrimmi and Signy at three days old

Tonight I went to Sharon Peek’s end of the semester Mat-Su College Community education dance class grande finale. Sharon did a great job putting this together and the college students did an equally good job in their collective performances. It was very impressive. Quite obviously, a lot of time and energy went into this.

I was recognized for my work on the Bright Lights Book Project. Sharon repeatedly said that it was too bad that I could not be in two places at once, and then she pulled forth a life size photo of me, holding a book. Coincidently, I was wearing the same shirt and hat that was featured in my photo. It is startling to see this photo in various places.

Tonight we left it in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel in a place where, when people step in, they will see it. I said to Pete afterwards that we are going to have a good time with this.

This project is a lot of hard work, and progress, particularly in our attempt to get an executive director, which is someone who will have an interest in fund raising, is quite difficult. Gosh, how great this would be – and lucrative because this is a feel good project.

And so this morning (I am in my chronology going backwards) we met with a program officer who works for the Rasmuson Foundation. I thought of an analogy to a horse race, meaning I got off to a bad start, just like Renegade in the Derby. I had a hard time making the computer/Zoom connection and got visibly agitated. Pete said that the expression on my face was priceless, and he was right. I was glad that he said this.

I regained my stride, and I think that together Pete and I did a good job of representing the project. But no matter that the deadline for what we’re requesting funding for, Summer in the Park(s), is June 1 – it will be some time before we get funding if we are to get funding.

But we’ll go ahead and do this project. I can see where this is going to take a lot of time that I don’t have. I will again just take this a day at a time. And I’ll somehow get to spend more time with Hrimmi.

Next: 124. 5/6/26: Tired
