February 22, 2026: Running with Horses

Now isn’t that a wonderful title? I think so. So this morning I worked on BLBP stuff – have to get ready for the week ahead. I made lists of things I have to do this week. Once things were in some semblance of order, I felt less overwhelmed.

Not so Pete, who in addition to the BLBP administrative, is backlogged with his student work, which as he says includes “reading stacks of student papers.” I don’t think he heard me when I said, “Too bad we aren’t talking stacks of pancakes.”

I worked until 2:00 p.m.; then, after lunch, I went outside, so as to spend time with the horses. The sun was shining brightly, and it was midday warm, maybe 25˚ F out. I decided to first get Tyra out. My plan was to run with her around the loop. And this is what we did.

I am physically within touching distance of the point of no return. If I don’t get in good shape now, I will never be able to get in good shape. I know this. I put off getting in good shape until now because I figured I could again get in good shape.

I’ll never be in the shape I was when I ran marathons. But I might be able to do Mount Marathon in a year.

That is if I continue to work out. Working out is going to have to include getting a gym membership, swimming, and stretching.

I’m also going to need to get some medical conditions looked into

After running with Tyra, I saddled up Hrimmi and ran with her down Murphy Road to the creek. I then rode her back uproad to the trail head and then rode her home via Jawbone Junction and Siggi’s Loop. The snow was deep – we had opened it up some – but the poor mare had to work. She did throw in a canter for good measure.

The field adjacent to Jim’s Road had been trashed by snowmobilers. One started down the diagonal trail as Hrimmi and I were going up it – I pointed to both sides of the trail – they went to the left, right next to the horse. She didn’t mind.

Oh well.

I lastly got Raudi out – I took her for a walk around the loop. It was getting darker, and I still had manure to pick up. She, like the other two, paid close attention to me, when I let her off lead, she would go a ways and wait for me to catch up.

I must find a way of continuing to run with my horses. I must, I must, I must.
