The following conversation took place as Tyra and I ran the mile loop around our neighborhood. This was our second day of doing this.
Tyra: This is two days in a row that you and I are running. Is this going to be a regular thing?
Alys: I hope so.
Tyra: Why are you running so slow?
Alys: Because my legs are sore from running yesterday.
Tyra: You didn’t run far at all.
Alys: You are right. But it seemed far. After I went around the loop with you, I got Hrimmi out. We ran down Murphy Road, to the creek. I rode her back up road and then we did a trail ride. |

Tyra says hi to the chicken
|
Tyra: She told Raudi and me all about it.
Alys: What did she have to say?
Tyra: Just what you told me.
Alys: Did she have anything else to say?
Tyra: Yes, she said that she is wondering when the grass is going to reappear. She is hungry for what she calls her greens.
Alys: Like you, I fed her treats.
Tyra: Hrimmi’s preference is for grass.
Alys: And you?
Tyra: I’ll take what I can get.
Alys: Is it important to get out and about?
Tyra: Absolutely. After all, I am the adventure horse.
Alys: Yes, there is no doubt about this. Hey, come back here. That’s Pancho’s driveway.
Tyra: Lets go and check it out.
Alys: Let’s not.
Tyra: Are we just going to be going around this loop? Two days is enough of this for me.
Alys: No, we’ll get out on the trails here pretty quick.
Tyra: They’re punchy now, because of the snow.
Alys: And I get punchy, post holing in the snow.
Tyra: Imagine weighing another 70 pounds.
Alys: I’m putting on weight fast, so I may become even punchier soon.
Tyra: What do humans eat?
Alys: Everything but grass.
Tyra: I could use another apple slice.
Alys: Here you go.
Tyra: Good, good, but a little soft around the edges.
Alys: I like apples that are firm and crisp.
Tyra: Same here.
Alys: But a soft apple is better than no apple at all, right?
Tyra: You drive a hard bargain.
Alys: What do you hear from the birds lately?
Tyra: Not much. My magpie friends tell me what’s going on. The chickadees, they are rather witless.
Alys: Witless?
Tyra: Chicka dee dee dee.
Alys; That’s pretty good for a horse.
Tyra: Like all horses I have many gifts.
Alys: Yes, I am aware of this.
Tyra: Humans have many gifts too, but most are too heavy handed.
Alys: Do you think that I’m heavy handed?
Tyra: Sometimes.
Alys: What about Pete?
Tyra: Not at all. He’s the gentlest, kindest person I have ever met.
Alys: But he’s heavy handed as a rider.
Tyra: Yes, but he’s getting more light handed as time goes on. We are buddies. I hope that sometime we can do another long trip together.
Alys: Me too.
Tyra: So what are you doing with your time?
Alys: It’s a long story.
Tyra: I like long stories.
Alys: I will tell you tomorrow if we go for a long ride.
Tyra: Please do.
